Swimming club AZL will have existed for 54 years in 2023 and is a household name for many people in Leidschendam and the surrounding area. Many thousands of children have learned to swim at AZL or have won medals in competitions and matches. Having fun in the water, enjoying sports and learning to swim safely: that is what swimming club AZL has to offer.
We offer swimming lessons, water polo, competitive swimming, snorkelling and recreational swimming. There is something for everybody and for everyone from 4 to 100 years old. Many of our members come from Leidschendam, but AZL also has members from Voorburg, Voorschoten, The Hague, Leidschenveen and Wassenaar.
At AZL, it is possible to take swimming lessons for the Swim-ABC (Zwem-ABC) and swimming proficiency diplomas (Zwemvaardigheid) on Thursday evenings or Saturday afternoons. Lessons last 45 minutes and children are taught in groups by experienced and qualified instructors. At the first lesson, one parent per child joins the class. Lateral entry is also possible. We have a minimum age limit of 4 years. From this age, children can be registered for lesson swimming. When registering, you can indicate which time suits you best. As far as possible, placement in a lesson hour will be done in consultation with you. There are three opportunities to obtain a diploma per school year. For more information, please visit the hostess/host at the table in the clubhouse on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM or Saturday afternoons from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Of course, you can also email email@example.com.
Water polo starters
All children aged 6 to 11 who have a B-diploma can get acquainted with water polo on Monday evenings at 6:00 PM. For more information, you can drop by during training (and come along for a training session) or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Competitive swimming is not only an individual sport, but also a team sport. It is fun to improve your personal record during the competition. The team element comes to the fore during level and league competitions, when it is all about the fastest teams. For novice competitive swimmers, there are ‘Youth in Training’ and Swimkick competitions. At the competitions, the team competes together with other associations in a starting community named SG de Vliet. There are several training sessions per week, including Mondays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. For more information, you can drop by before training starts (and have a go at training right away) or send a message to email@example.com.
Water polo is a fun and intensive sport, but no harder or more demanding than other ball sports. It is a versatile sport, as swimming trains all your muscles and also develops your sense of play because you play in a team. Sport-wise, water polo is similar to handball; both sports are about throwing and scoring with a ball and some physical contact is allowed. The strict rules in water polo ensure that the game is played sportily. AZL highly values sportsmanship and ensures that these rules are followed during training and competition. AZL has youth and senior water polo teams in all age groups. There are several training sessions per week, including on Monday evenings from 6:45 PM to 10:00 PM. For more information, you can drop by during training (and have a go at training right away) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
For lemonade, coffee and other refreshments or just a good chat, everyone is welcome in our cosy clubhouse. A nice bonus is that you can watch the activities in the competition pool while enjoying a snack or a drink. The candy bar is very popular with children, but healthy snacks are also available. Did you know that you can also rent our clubhouse for a party or meeting? Ask about the possibilities! email@example.com.
