Examination Requirements Survival

National Survival Diploma 1

Trial 1.1 – Save yourself – Moving forward

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a forward roll, followed by 60 seconds of water pedalling, followed by 30 seconds of staying vertically afloat using a floating object, followed by 12.5 metres of headward propulsion, followed by 37.5 metres of swimming with a breaststroke with the head above water, completing trial by climbing onto a fixed side using a floating object.

Trial 1.2 – Save yourself and another person

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a leap forward, then swim 25 metres to a buddy with a breaststroke with the head above water, interrupted once by swimming under a floating object, followed by swimming 25 metres together with a buddy to the pool side.

Trial 1.3 – Underwater orientation

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a head jump, then swim 6 metres underwater, simultaneously surfacing 1 object from the bottom, complete trial by surfacing safely.

Trial 1.4 – Perform a rescue

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Throw a floating object to a drowning person lying in the water at a maximum of 2 metres from the side, followed by grabbing a longer object and handing it to the drowning person, then pulling the drowning person towards the side until the drowning person has one hand on the shore.

Trial 1.5 – Transportation

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Lower yourself into the water from a fixed pool side, then drag a drowning person for 12.5 metres, followed by pushing a drowning person for 12.5 metres.

Trial 1.6 – Save another – Underwater

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a jump, keeping the head above water, then swim 5 metres with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by surfacing a pylon (at least 1.8 metres depth), then bring the pylon to the surface of the water.

Trial 1.7 – FUN task

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Have the candidate perform the most fun survival task you can think of. This may be done individually, in pairs or in a group. The guideline for the duration of the task is 2-3 minutes.

National Survival Diploma 2

Trial 2.1 – Save yourself – Moving forward

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt and jacket or jumper

Enter the water with a roll forward, then 60 seconds of water pedalling, followed by 12.5 metres of foot propulsion, followed by 37.5 metres of swimming with a breaststroke with the head above water, interrupted once by climbing over a floating object, completing the trial by climbing onto an elevated fixed side using a floating object.

Trial 2.2 – Save yourself and another person

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt and jacket or jumper

Enter the water from some height with a leap forward, then swim 25 metres to a buddy with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by taking off the jacket while treading water, then swimming 25 metres together with a buddy to the pool side, completing the trial by helping a buddy onto the fixed side.

 

Trial 2.3 – Underwater orientation

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Dive into the water, then swim 9 metres underwater, simultaneously fetching 2 objects from the basin floor, complete the trial by surfacing safely in a designated area.

Trial 2.4 – Perform a rescue

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water from some height with a leap forward with material, then swim 10 metres with material towards a drowning person, followed by preventing an embracement by offering the material, followed by transporting the drowning person 10 metres with material.

Trial 2.5 – Transportation

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Lower yourself into the water from some height and a fixed side, followed by transporting a drowning person 15 metres using the head grip.

Trial 2.6 – Save another – Underwater

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a leap while keeping the head above water, then swim 5 metres with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by going headwards towards the basin floor, followed by surfacing a dummy person (at least 1.8 metres depth), then bringing the dummy to the surface of the water and keeping the dummy above water for 5 seconds.

Trial 2.7 – FUN task

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Have the candidate perform the most fun survival task you can think of. This may be done individually, in pairs or in a group. The guideline for the duration of the task is 2-3 minutes.

Trial 3.1 – Save yourself – Moving forward

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, jacket or jumper, shoes and backpack

Let yourself fall into the water sideways or backwards, followed by 60 seconds of water treading, in which after 30 seconds the candidate removes the (weighted) backpack, followed by 12.5 metres of headward propulsion, followed by climbing onto a floating object, then let yourself fall into the water from the floating object, followed by 12.5 metres of footward propulsion, followed by 25 metres of breaststroke swimming with the head above water, completing the trial by climbing onto an elevated fixed pool side.

Trial 3.2 – Save yourself and another person

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, jacket or jumper and shoes

Dive into the water from some height, then swim 25 metres to a buddy with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by swimming 25 metres with a buddy to a floating object, followed by helping your buddy to get/climb onto a floating object, then remove the jacket and shoes while treading water and place them on the floating object, followed by transporting/moving your buddy on the floating object 25 metres.

Trial 3.3 – Underwater orientation

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a forward roll, then swim 5 metres with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by going headwards towards the basin floor, followed by 9 metres of underwater swimming, simultaneously fetching 3 objects on the basin floor (with a distance of 2 metres between them), completing the test by surfacing safely with a longitudinal 360 turn.

 

Trial 3.4 – Performing a rescue

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a floating object from some height with a foot leap forward, then swim 15 metres with a floating object towards a drowning person, followed by offering the floating object brought along, then helping the drowning person to get rid of the (weighted) backpack, then transporting the drowning person 15 metres to pool side with a floating object.

Trial 3.5 – Liberate and Transport

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a foot leap forward, then swim 25 metres towards a drowning person with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by a quick release, followed by transporting the drowning person 15 metres with the armpit grip, followed by transporting the drowning person 10 metres with a transport grip of your choice.

Trial 3.6 – Save another – Underwater

Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt

Enter the water with a leap keeping the head above water, then swim 10 metres with a breaststroke with the head above water, followed by going headwards towards the basin floor, followed by surfacing a dummy person (at least 1.8 metres depth), then bringing the dummy to the surface of the water by surfacing safely and keeping the dummy above water for 10 seconds.
